Punta Cana Packing List

Clothes to Pack for Punta Cana

Clothing and swimwear are probably two of the first things you think about when beginning to pack for Punta Cana. Here are some recommendations on the types of clothes that you will want to pack for a Punta Cana vacation!

Obviously, you need to bring your favorite swimwear, but I want to share a few of my absolute favorite swimwear must-haves that are perfect to bring to Punta Cana!

The BEST Swim Trunks for Boys – No Chafing!

These are seriously awesome swimming trunks. They have compression boxer briefs built-in, so no chafing. My son LOVES these. Check them out here: Boy’s Swim Trunks

The BEST One-Piece Swimsuits for Women

If you’re wanting to purchase some new super cute one-piece swimsuits, you’re in luck. I have an entire post with all my favorite Amazon one-piece swimming suits! Browse my favorites here: The Best One Piece Swimsuits on Amazon in 2024

Swimsuit Cover-Ups

You’ll want to pack multiple swimsuit cover-ups. Swim Cover-ups are a MUST for beach and pool days. Snag one of these crochet swimming suit cover ups! I love the look of the white, cream and black color, but you can also get it in blue, teal, and grey!

I really love a good button down swimming suit cover up! Check out this affordable Amazon button down cover up!

These lightweight cover up skirts are so cute and functional, plus they come in so many color options!

Hawaiian Shirts/Beachy Button Downs

Hawaiian Shirts and beachy button downs are what you’ll see most men and boys wearing in Punta Cana!

These Hawaiian shirts for boys are so cute!

Sun Dresses and Resort Wear

Most women wear cute sun dresses or matching beachy sets at the Punta Cana resorts. I’m sharing a few of my favorites below!

This is the perfect summer dress to wear in Punta Cana. You can use it as a swim cover-up or just to wear casually throughout the resort. It comes in a ton of different colors and patterns!

Here are some other super cute sets and dresses that would be perfect for the tropical weather in Punta Cana!

Evening Attire

Many of the resorts in Punta Cana have dress-codes that are enforced in the evening restaurants and entertainment venues. Typically the requirements are collared shirts for men, and no shorts or flip flops. Each resort has different dress codes, so be sure to pack evening outfits according to the dress codes at your resort.

Shoes You MUST Bring to Punta Cana

Water Shoes

We did not pack water shoes, and definitely wished we would have. Our excursion was to Scape Park and shoes were required on the zip lines. We had to get our tennis shoes soaking wet. Don’t be like us… bring water shoes! By the way, they make nice looking water shoes that look like tennis shoes, so you don’t have to worry about how they look anymore!😉 Check these water shoes out: Adult Water Shoes | Kids Water Shoes

Kids Water Shoes

Flip Flops/Slides for the Beach

Be sure to get fast drying beach sandals or flip flops for the beach. I ended up with blisters from constantly putting on my flip flops that were fabric and never dried. Check out these great options for everyone in the family. Men’s Beach Sandals | Women’s Beach Sandals | Kids Beach Sandals

Comfortable walking shoes for excursions

If you are planning on going on an excursion, you’ll probably want to pack a pair of comfortable walking shoes. Many of the excursions will require walking and/or tennis shoes!

Dressy sandals for dinners or events

Be sure to check your resort’s restaurant and entertainment venue dress codes. Most often, sandals are required (no flip flops).

Beach Essentials: Things You NEED on the Punta Cana Beaches

Waterproof Beach Bag

This is a MUST! We carried our beach bag everywhere. It went with us back-and-forth from the beach to the pool multiple times a day! Here is the one I purchased and LOVEDBest Beach Bag

Waterproof Phone Cases

I bought a multi-pack of these and we wore them around our neck. You are going to want to take photos, and you can wear these in the water to get the best shots! I can vouch for these waterproof phone cases and highly recommend bringing them: Waterproof Phone Cases

Beach Cup

You can’t drink the water in Punta Cana, so if you are vacationing to a beach location where you can’t drink the water, be sure to bring an insulated beach cup. They will fill these for you at the bars/buffets. These BrüMate Era Leakproof Tumblers (#ad) are my Favorite!

Cheap Sunglasses

Don’t bring expensive sunglasses and bring multiple pairs. Our family lost two pairs in the ocean! Grab a multi-pack of sunglasses, and you’ll be all set. Multi-pack Men’s Polarized Sunglasses | Women’s 3-pack Sunglasses

Sun Hat/Straw Hat

These beach hats are so cute and a MUST for a beach vacation! Sun Hat for Women | Sun Hat for Men

Beach Towels

Most resorts provide beach towels, but if you have a favorite towel, go ahead and bring it! I did not bring beach towels because I didn’t want to take up the room in my suitcase. If you are bringing beach towels, I recommend bringing a light-weight less bulky towel. Check out the beach towels below! They are light-weight and highly rated on Amazon!

Goggles

These are the goggles we brought to Punta Cana and they were really great. We did lose one pair to the ocean, though. 🤣

Suncare and Bug Repellent

High SPF Sunscreen and After-Sun Gel

Important Tip! Bring your own sunscreen. The prices of the sunscreen at the resort shops is astronomical! This sunscreen is my favorite: Sunscreen SPF 50. Be sure to choose a High-SPF sunscreen and bring an aloe vera gel for after-sun care.

Bug Spray and Itch Relief

While we did not have any issues with bugs during our stay in Punta Cana, many travelers note sand fleas and mosquitos. We packed bug spray and anti-itch cream to have on hand.

Essential Travel Accessories For Punta Cana

E-Tickets (MANDATORY for Dominican Republic)

You have to fill out and bring an E-Ticket if you are traveling to the Dominican Republic. We had to provide our E-ticket in the US when we checked in for our first flight. When it is requested can vary by airline and country, but it WILL be requested at some point, so you MUST have it. Just be prepared and keep it with you at all times. *Important Note: *THE E-TICKET IS FREE*. Apparently there are many scam sites that try to make you pay for your E-ticket, but DO NOT PAY. It is completely free and the valid link to the form will be provided to you by your airline.

Luggage Locks

I always like to lock my luggage when I leave my hotel room. These little locks are so handy!

Travel Documents

You need to be sure you have your Passports, Driver’s License, E-Tickets, Flight Confirmations, Resort Confirmations, and other important travel documents. I HIGHLY recommend using a carrying case to store all of these important travel documents.

I used this passport carrying case and LOVED it!

Phone Chargers and Accessories

Be sure you bring your phone chargers, and any electronic accessories. I love these handy portable phone chargers!

These universal charging cords are perfect for travel! I love how they are retractable.

Cash

If you booked an all-inclusive Punta Cana resort, then you won’t need to bring a lot of cash. Just, be sure you bring enough cash for tips! We tipped our housekeeping, pool/beach bar tenders, buffet and dinner servers, and anyone else that helped us out along the way!

Universal Travel Adapter for Electronics

We did not have to use any travel adapters, as the plugs in Punta Cana were the same as the plugs in the U.S. If you are traveling from another country that has a different type of plug, you’ll want to be sure you bring the appropriate adapter.

Packing Cubes

Packing cubes are a nice way to organize everything in your suitcase.

Medications and First Aid You Need to Have on Hand

While you can buy most over-the-counter medications at your resort shop in Punta Cana, I promise you won’t want to pay those prices! I recommend you pack essential over-the-counter medications for headaches, allergies, and upset stomachs. Also, pack all your prescription medications in labeled containers.

I also suggest you pack first-aid essentials like bandages and antiseptic wipes.

Many times when traveling to new countries, people will end up with stomach issues due to the change in food. We packed electrolyte packs to have on hand in case we had any trouble (we didn’t).

Toiletries

Be sure to pack all your toiletries including, makeup, hair ties, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, hair products, flat irons, brushes, leave-in conditioner, perfumes, lotions, razors, and chapstick! Most resorts have a hair dryer in the room. My full Punta Cana Packing List Spreadsheet is comprehensive, so be sure to check through all the toiletries on that packing list.

Here is a really nice makeup case that makes packing toiletries so easy!
